Child Sexual Abuse - Signs And Symptoms

May 1st, 2008 by casualshoes7366

Sexual abuse has affected millions of children throughout the world. Child sexual abuse is defined as: An adult using a child for sexual purposes. This can be in the form of child pornography, submitting children to look at pornography, fondling, touching, kissing, sodomy, exposing oneself to a child, rape, oral sex, intercourse, or having the child touch the adult. All children will react differently to this type of trauma. There is no one single identifiable sign or symptom that all children will have. They may have very subtle symptoms or they may have very pronounced symptoms. I have gathered a list of symptoms that children of sexual abuse are often seen to have.

Bedwetting (after being potty trained)

Waking up in the night screaming, nightmares or other sleeping problems

Showing an unusual fear of certain people, places or things

A reluctance to be with a certain person

Loss of appetite or trouble eating

Fear of the bathroom

Excessive crying

Mood changes, anger outbursts or withdrawal or fear

Becomes worried when clothing is removed

Wearing layers of clothing

Age inappropriate knowledge of sex

Imitating sexual acts with other children or toys, such as dolls

Withdrawing from activities they used to be involved in

Difficulty walking or sitting

Complains of pain with urination or bowel movement

Bleeding from the genital area or anus

Academic problems

Lowered self esteem

Symptoms of PTSD such as panic attacks

Somatic complaints

Regression of behavior

Having new words for private body parts

Excessive masturbation

These are all symptoms of child sexual abuse. One common feeling I have found in working with children and adolescents, is guilt. Children usually feel guilt over the abuse that occurred. It is important to remember that under no circumstance is a child ever responsible for what happened to them. It is crucial that “re- victimization” does not happen. Some ways a child can be re- victimized is by saying to the child:

“Uncle Joey, or Grandpa Bob would never do that to you, why are you lying?”

“It couldn’t of been that bad, or you would have told me sooner”

Child sexual abuse victims usually carry this trauma with them for the rest of their lives. Some children as they begin to get older will start using drugs, get into relationships with others who are abusive, see themselves as “damaged goods” and begin acting out sexually. Engage is self mutilation, such as cutting behaviors. Some children gain weight or don’t take care of themselves so they look “unattractive” to others.

There is hope. Finding the proper treatment for past trauma can be influential on how they cope with this as an adult. Rape crisis centers are usually available in most states. There is also a national rape crisis center. They are a full service agency that addresses prevention, education, crisis intervention, counseling and advocacy. They work with both children and adults. There is also a 24 hour hotline available at the national rape crisis center, for parents or victims of sexual abuse.

Cheryl Crow Touches Carl Rove; Arm Falls Off

April 30th, 2008 by casualshoes7366

During a White House Correspondents Dinner, Cheryl Crow, who, with Laurie David, is doing a Stop Global Warming College Tour, went up to Carl Rove, hoping to discuss the environmental issue with him.

Carl didn’t seem overly pleased with the subject matter.

Unaware of just how toxic his response might be, Cheryl touched his arm to soothe his irascible behavior.

“Don’t touch me!” he barked at her, provoking some discussion as to the stability of his psychological state.

Cheryl beat a quick retreat, never suspecting that later in the evening her arm would fall off.

She was rushed to the hospital, where it was reattached, and she continued her environmentally correct tour.

The 3 Rules Of Night Fishing

April 27th, 2008 by casualshoes7366

With a few simple additions to your gear and some careful planning, it’s not as hard as many anglers think to enjoy fishing at night.

There are three key aspects to safe and successful night fishing:

1. Organisation - During the course of a day’s fishing, your equipment tends to get strewn around the place. At night, this simply won’t work. You have to get organised and make sure that everything you may need to re-bait or re-tackle is kept tidily in the bivvy.

It can get very dark away from the streetlights, so you’ll need to remember a small pocket torch, but nothing so bright that it’s going to put off other anglers.

2. Safety - When it’s dark, you’re tired and you’re near deep water, it pays to be tidy. You should make sure there is nothing sticking out that you can trip over or get caught on. Make sure you can see the water’s edge, or at least know just where it is.

Try to fish with a friend, or at least make sure someone knows where you are. It’s a good idea to take a mobile phone with you, too, so that you can call for help should you need it.

3. Comfort - Being comfortable is the key to a successful trip. Wearing a T-shirt and shorts is fine in the day, but when you’re sitting for hours at night when the temperature drops, you’ll get extremely cold if you don’t have warm clothes on and a number of layers.

You need boots rather than trainers for night fishing and a spare pair of socks is a good idea. They don’t take up much room and you will be glad of them if your feet get wet. It’s always worth wearing a hat, too, since we lose a large amount of body heat through our head. Plenty of food and hot drinks are obviously essential items on a night fishing trip.

The Dog Lane Fishery in Warwickshire has a carp lake with carp in excess of 25lb. They have caravans and camping facilities available, so there is everything you need for a great night of fishing. Visit their website now by clicking on http://doglanefishery.co.uk

What You Need To Know About Alternative Fuel Sources

April 26th, 2008 by casualshoes7366

Using alternative fuel sources is not just a matter of environmental responsibility. It is not just about calming down the little voices screaming in your head. It makes good sense and a solid investment for the future. Although most of us are either ignorant or can’t care less, the fossil fuels which form the backbone of our world economy are dwindling quite rapidly, even as we go about our daily business in our cars. Just look at the rocketing oil prices reported all over the media and you’ll get a feel of how severe the problem actually is.

Once the big oil crash happens (like another major war in the Middle East or the OPEC just decides to sit on its oil reserved doing nothing) , it will be a huge crisis for those who are unprepared to use an alternative fuel source. There will be a run on biodiesel vehicles, and an even greater demand for electric vehicles, causing skyrocketing prices, and shortages.

Although few Americans use an alternative fuel source to commute, those who do are soon going to be at an advantage. If your alternative fuel source is your feet, whether through walking or bike riding, you are already at an advantage, paying nothing to move from one place to another and training your body at the same time. However, even if you can not get around solely on your feet, it makes sense to start planning your life around alternate fuel sources now, before it becomes too late.

In addition, many areas will probably not be adequately prepared to work with an alternative fuel source. There may be no where to even refill your biodiesel cars, and that will make things quite hard. People will have become so used to the convenience of their gas powered vehicles, that they will not be able to really get around this formidable-looking problem. But if you plan your life around an alternative fuel source, you will have no trouble adjusting.

The most fool-proof alternative fuel source is your own two feet, but since not all of us have athletic bodies or enjoy walking hours under the sun and snow, the real solution is public transport. If you live in an area where public transportation is already in place, and runs on electric vehicles, then congratulations. I bet that your local economy will suffer far less damage from the fuel crisis.

The public transit, driven by an alternative fuel source, will be able to pick up the extra passengers who have been forced to suddenly give up their cars, and there will be minimal inconvenience. If you have an electric vehicle, you will similarly be in a good position, as electricity will always be a good alternative fuel source. No matter how bad the fuel crises gets, the government will know better than letting the national power grid collapse. Therefore, electricity makes a lot of sense.

Confined Space Rescue-not A “do It Yourself” Job

April 24th, 2008 by casualshoes7366

When a worker in confined spaces is injured or trapped on the job, the last thing anyone would want is for the rescuers to be hurt as well. Yet, without the right training or specialized confined space equipment, the most well-intentioned hero could unfortunately make matters worse.

What is a confined space?

Confined spaces are not necessarily small, or even closed. They are characterized by having a limited means of entry or exit. They could possibly only be accessed with a ladder, or they may have only one entry point.

Just to give you an idea of the range, some examples of confined spaces are: maintenance holes (manholes), sewers, boilers, tunnels, pipelines, wells, fuel tanks, storage tanks, tank cars and tank trucks, vats, process vessels, septic tanks, sewage lift stations, vaults, silos, bins, and ventilation and exhaust ducts. Confined spaces can even include deep empty swimming pools, deep trenches, deep open top tanks, pits and roof spaces.

Each of these spaces is not necessarily hazardous in and of themselves. However, the size, shape and location of the exit can increase the risk associated with occupying the space in the event of an emergency. For example, a storage tank may for some reason rapidly take on water. It may be unexpectedly difficult to exit due to the nature of the construction of the tank, thus increasing the risk of harm.

These spaces are not regulated by general building codes for habitable structures, since there is no expectation that people will spend a lot of time there. And, since most of us are accustomed to living and working in environments where exits are strictly regulated and hazards carefully foreseen and prevented, we may make the mistake of thinking all spaces are safe. But they’re not.

Possible hazards

Many of the hazards of confined spaces can’t be seen or smelt, so are especially dangerous. There may be an oxygen deficiency that is undetectable at first, but becomes progressively worse the further you get into the structure. Some atmospheres are highly flammable through a mixture of dusts, gases or vapors that can explode or catch fire. Toxic gases may be unnoticeable at first as well.

Other hazards include the presence of toxic chemicals, slippery surfaces, becoming stuck in a tight spot, falling, or being buried by material stored in the space. Biological hazards include diseases that can reside in water that stagnates in a confined space.

It’s important to be on the lookout for all these possibilities, since they do not occur in normally occupied spaces so they are especially unexpected.

Safety Tips

Everyone should be aware of the precautions to take before entering any structure that is not generally intended for human occupation.

–Be aware of the confined spaces around you, and ask for specific training on the space before entering.

–Obtain the correct permits before entering. This is an instance where the laws are not devised to keep anyone from what they need to do, but rather to ensure that everyone using a potentially hazardous space is fully informed of the hazards.

–Monitor the air in the confined space before entry. Poisonous gases may be undetectable to the human senses. Use special confined space equipment such as a gas monitor to determine the safety of the space, both at the top, the middle and the bottom (since different gases have different weights).

–Be sure there is adequate ventilation, or use confined space equipment such as blowers to provide oxygen or get rid of harmful gases. Ventilation should be continuous where possible, because in many confined spaces the hazardous atmosphere will form again when the flow of air is stopped.

–Only enter the space if you are thoroughly trained about potential hazards and have the proper confined space equipment to work safely.

–Assign someone else to be an attendant, and post that person outside the confined space to keep an eye on your status. Attendant should be in constant communication with the person in the confined space to make sure ventilation is working, monitor the air, and call for help.

–Attendants should not, however, attempt to perform a rescue, unless they are fully trained on confined space rescue procedures and there is yet another attendant present.

Confined space equipment

It’s a good idea to have the proper training and rescue equipment nearby in the event of an emergency, just in case.

Retrieval systems such as tripods and winches can be used to rescue workers without having to enter the space. Rescues that require entry should only be done by specially trained rescue workers.

In addition to using ventilation and other measures, workers need protective gear. This includes a full body or chest harness and may also require respirators, hard hats, goggles, earplugs or muffs, gloves, boots, or other protective clothing.

In short, while it is a good instinct to want to be helpful when you can see someone else is in danger, you don’t want to compound the problem by putting yourself in danger, too. Contact a qualified professional as quickly as possible, and use proper confined space equipment for rescue. You may be saving more than one life by doing so.

Understanding Meats: Why Red Meat is Red and Why White Meat is White

April 23rd, 2008 by casualshoes7366

Animal muscle turns to meat after slaughtering. Meat is surrounded by a layer of connective tissues, consisting almost entirely protein collagen. Meat tissues are composed of three main factors, water, protein (connective tissue) and fat. Carbohydrate also appears in meat as it gives the browning effect of meat when cooked. Without this carbohydrate, the desirable flavor and appearance of browned meat would not be achieved.

Meat are mainly referred as red or dark and white meat. Red or dark meat is mainly made up of muscles with fibers that are called slow fibers. These muscles are used for extended periods of activity, such as standing or walking and need a consistent energy source. The protein myoglobin stores oxygen in muscle cells, which use oxygen to extract the energy needed for constant activity. Myoglobin is a richly pigmented protein. The more myoglobin there is in the cells, the redder or darker, the meat is. Red meat is red because the muscle fibers that make up the bulk of the meat contain a high content of myoglobin, which are colored red. Myoglobin, a protein similar to hemoglobin in red blood cells, acts as a store for oxygen within the muscle fibers.

White meat is made up of muscles with fibers that are called fast fibers. Fast fibers muscles are used for quick bursts of activity, such as fleeing from danger. These muscles get energy from glycogen, which is also stored in the muscles. White meat as in fish has a translucent “glassy” quality when it is raw. Animal such as calf and pigs are also categorized as white meat. Veal meat is white because it is slaughtered after the calf been milk fed, approximately up to one year old. Pigs are lazy animal; they are not as active as cows, so their body contains more fat than any other animal. White meat is white because there is less usage in the muscle. Myoglobin content is low in these muscles. This is why chicken breast, pork and veal are slightly pink or white, before or after cooked. Fish is white because it lives in water and does not need to support its own body weight. Basically, there are no myoglobins in these muscles.

The difference between meat and fish muscle tissue is that there is no tough connective tissue between the muscles and bones.

Cows and pigs are both sources of dark meat, though pig is often called “the other white meat.” Pigs muscles do contain myoglobin, but the concentration is not as heavy as it is in beef. Chickens have a mixture of both dark and white meat, and fish is mainly white meat. Chicken spend a lot of time walking around and standing. Their thigh and leg muscles are used constantly, so the meat from these parts is slightly darker than its breast. Since they rarely fly, and then only for very short distances, the meat that comes from the breast and wings is white. In contrast, wild birds such as ducks fly a lot; the meat from their breasts and wings is dark. Same goes with their legs, as they use them for swimming.

Cows spend a lot of time standing, walking and so their muscles are constantly being used. Therefore, beef has a fairly high concentration of myoglobin and is dark red. Pigs also can spend quite a bit of time standing and roaming around. The pink color of pork is due to myoglobin, but because the animals used for pork and veal are young and small, their muscles are less developed and do less work. Therefore, pigs and calf have a lower concentration of myoglobin in their muscles than cows. The only similarity between these four animals is that they are mammals on land. Fish float in water and do not need constant muscle energy to support their skeletons. Most fish meat is white, with some red meat around the fins and tail, which is used for swimming. The pink colored of some fish, such as wild salmon and trout, is due to astaxanthin, a naturally occurring pigment in the crustaceans they eat. Fish such as sharks and tuna has a dark or red flesh because it contains more myoglobin as they are fast swimmers and a migratory fish.

Juiciness and tenderness are two very important factors when it comes to meat quality. Both factors are influenced by the cut of meat and how long the meat is cooked. The more a muscle is used, the stronger and therefore tougher, the cut of meat will be. In contrast, the longer meat is cooked, the more liquid it loses and the tougher it becomes. Factors that also influence tenderness and juiciness are: The animal’s age at slaughter, the amount of fat and collagen (connective tissue) contained in particular cuts and to a small degree, brining.

Collagen is a long, stiff protein that is the most prevalent protein in mammals. It’s made up of three separate molecules composed of amino acid chains, twisted around each other, something like the way fibers are twisted around each other to form a rope. This structure is what makes the collagen so strong; this strength is also what makes it more difficult to break down. The more collagen there is in a piece of meat, the tougher it is to cut and to chew. Skin is mostly collagen, as are the tendons that connect muscles to bones. For cuts that are high in collagen, cooking with methods that use slow, moist heat, such as stewing or braising, are the best. Collagen is soluble in water and when it is cooked slowly with moist heat, it becomes gelatin.

Collagen can be less tough by slicing up the meat into smaller pieces, which makes the fiber smaller and easier to break apart. Weight-bearing muscles and muscles that are constantly used contain higher amounts of collagen than muscles that aren’t used for support or aren’t used as frequently. Cows and pigs have higher amounts of collagen in the legs, chest, and rump. Pork is generally more tender than beef, because pigs are usually slaughtered at a younger age than cows and so their muscles are less developed and have less collagen than those of cows.

Fish muscles are quite different from those in mammals. Fish float in water and so don’t need muscle to support their weight. Their muscle fiber are very short called myotomes and are held together by connective tissue called myocammata, which is much more delicate than collagen and breaks down much more easily when cooked. The only muscles that most fish use extensively are around the tail and fins (areas that aren’t eaten as often by humans), which are used for constant cruising around in the water. Once caught, (dead) fish are stored in an ice room with standing temperature of 1-3

Wedding Gowns - How Did You Choose Yours?

April 21st, 2008 by casualshoes7366

There is a very wide range of wedding and evening gowns offered by Bridal Studios.

Brides to be are spoilt for choice of what to wear and choose.

There are many times that brides get really overwhelmed by the number of gowns they have to choose.

1 wedding gown, 1 evening gown, 1 tea-dress, 1 Chinese Kua are the norms of an ordinary pakage.

However, for brides who can afford to pay more, they may have up to 2 or even 4 wedding gowns and 3 evening gowns.

Some brides even order gowns from overseas and arranged to be delivered to Singapore.

I remembered I have one friend of mine is really rich and she could afford to get different items such as her shoes, gowns from European countries. These items were to be air-flown to Singapore.

Wow!!!

Yes! Wedding is one in a life-time big event of one’s life. But it is just the beginning and for those brides who want more than what their budget allows, it is a wise decision to sit down and plan through how much they can spend on their gowns.

There are many times that an unwise decision was made in the spur of moment to get the gowns that they wanted to wear, and at the same time, they have blown their budgets.

So, one advice for ladies, as well as men out there, do include budgeting in the wedding planning and learn to do it together as it could benefit them by setting a foundation for them to learn to budget after their wedding…

Hot Lingerie

April 20th, 2008 by casualshoes7366

While lingerie is certainly something private and intimate, it is also something that changes with the times, bringing in new fashion every year. Thongs and their likes are going to be around maybe forever, but that doesn’t prevent a few new trends from coming in.

Boy Shorts

Boy shorts are the latest in hot lingerie. Boy shorts are styled similar to boys’ underwear and have snug fits that enhance your shape and make you look sexier. Boy shorts come in all varieties, and can cover your back completely or leave major portions of it uncovered. Boy shorts come in cotton, polyester, silk, satin, and micro-fiber. As for styles, you can choose from laced, decorative or scalloped edging. You can also get double layer laced boy shorts that have a second layer inside.

Baby Dolls

Baby dolls are like negligees with a formed cup near the breasts and an attached loose fitting skirt that falls somewhere in the region between the belly button and the hips. The baby doll design is generally see-through. There are several enticing variations that provide excitement. They come in a variety of materials and have additional attractions like matching G-strings. You can also get them with peek-a-boo cups that partially expose the breasts or nipples, and tie closures in which the garment opens or closes with a bow tie. Look around and you’re sure to find some real sexy designs.

Chemises

A chemise is a short under dress or slip and is usually made of see-through material. Chemises also come with matching G-strings. Chemises come with stretch mesh or stretch lace with a lot of tantalizing designs and teasing variations. Polka dots are one of the many attractive design features. Add-ons could include fringes (yum decorative thin strips hanging from the hem line may be made of beads or other equally appealing options), open busts/tips, in which little or no coverage is provided fro the busts.

Crotchless Panties

There are panties and panties, and there are several that can make your mouth water. Crotchless panties are panties that have a convenient slit in the fabric covering the crotch area. These panties come to you in a variety of fabrics and with enticing variations. Fishnet is a coarse open mesh fabric that adds to your sex appeal. You can imagine what the fishnet crotchless panties can do to you. You can also get embroidered crotchless panties. Satin crotchless panties are the slippery ones, so better be careful!

G-Strings

The mention of G-strings is enough to arouse many a man. They are those triangular patches of fabric that are connected around the waist and leave the buttocks completely exposed. You can get a fairly wide variety here. You can opt for lace and pearls, velvet or even leather G-strings.

Thongs

Thongs are the evergreen item in lingerie and may perhaps never go out. While a lot of new styles are giving it a run for the money, thongs have so far asserted themselves and ensured their superiority.

Bustier

Bustiers are those cute things that extend below the breasts to provide additional support and control. They add to the sex appeal also. You get bustiers n all flavors and feels. There are the stretch and laced fishnet varieties. You also have a number of innovative designs and add-on features.

Corsets

These are the snug fitting garments that cinch the waist and lift the breasts. They can usually be adjusted for comfort using the lacing provided in the back. You can get them in a variety of materials like Jacquards, brocades, satin and leather. Varieties can include laced and tapestry.

Bras

Bras are, of course, the most widely used among lingerie, and have become an essential part of a woman’s underwear. There are so many different bras out there, and some of them do stand out. A right choice of your bras can certainly add to your comfort and sex appeal.

Tips for Finding Stylish Ladies Dresses

April 18th, 2008 by casualshoes7366

It seems that at times far too many people experience difficulties while choosing clothes that are appropriate for them? Is it so hard to find clothes that suit the occasion and the age? Why do so many people find it so difficult to dress him or herself adequately?

Lately, I visited a shareholder’s dinner for the local hospital. I cannot even describe what I saw there! I was amazed by the clothes all people were wearing!

The shareholder’s meeting included a dinner and an annual report of the hospital’s financial situation. Over two hundred people were present at the shareholder’s meeting. I was astonished to see that only about a half of them was wearing clothes, which are appropriate for the occasion. I even met women who were dressed as young girls. Probably, they have no mirrors at home!

Now, I’m going to read to all you women a short lecture about how to search for ladies dresses in a store. The regular stores are separated in sections. Lady’s clothes are separated in two groups: there are a juniors’ section which is meant for girls 19 years of age and under and then the misses’ section that is meant for woman older than 19. All women that are under 19 years old must look for their ladies dresses in the misses’ section.

Ladies dresses often follow the latest fashion, which changes from season to season. However, ladies dresses more often than not are in more classic styles. Ladies dresses usually have a simple design that suits many occasions. Ladies dresses must be modest and stylish in order to match a variety of events.

At the shareholder’s meeting, I met women I met many women who were dresses excessively for that occasion. They probably had not realized that they were wearing ladies dresses, which were made to be worn at very formal or special occasions such as a wedding, opera or formal ball.

On the contrary, there were women who were dressed in their everyday clothes, sweaters, and jeans. What was going on there? I even saw people wearing blue jeans and T-shits. I appreciate people who try to express their personality through clothes but anyway I believe clothes have to fit the occasion.

Up to me, the ladies dresses that fitted the shareholder’s meeting were those ladies dresses with stylish and simple design, which were complemented with refined accessories. The women who were wearing such ladies dresses had found a way to demonstrate their tasteful choice. They seemed to be self-assured and proud.

Contrariwise, women who were overdressed gave a sense of being unsure of themselves. Women who were trying show a youthful appearance were in fact leaving the impression of not caring.

I believe these women were not aware of how strong impression they may leave with their ladies dresses. I draw myself many conclusions. Based on ladies dresses choice, I can guess what a woman’s character is. For example, if I see a woman dressed in her daughter’s clothes, I think to myself that may be she is very desperate of losing her youth.

I will try to make her understand that if she had chosen an appropriate dress in the ladies dresses, she would convince everyone as well as herself that she is proud of what she had achieved. She may meet some very important people at this shareholder’s dinner. They may judge her by her clothes. First impression is lasts long. Ladies dresses can help her leave a positive one.
