Barbacoa - Grilled Sheep From Mexico

March 23rd, 2008 by karena7384

Barbacoa - the name itself sounds as if it is time to celebrate. It is an open fire grilling process where a whole sheep is made to roast slowly so that each fleshy part acquires that flabbergasting taste of barbeque bonfire. However, the sheep can also be grilled traditionally in a pit covered with leaves. This barbeque specialty was developed in Mexico just after the Spanish conquest and it was referred to as Barbacoa de cabeza.

Regional discrimination in the art of cooking

In U.S, some portions of the head of the cow become the item to be grilled. In Northern Mexico, again it is the head of the cow, though goat meat or Cabrito is more preferred here. Lamb is the choice of the Central Mexicans and it is Cochinita Pibil (pit-style pork) in traditional Yucatan gastronomy dictionary.

Barbacoa and Barbeque

The word barbeque is an adoption from the word barbacoa. In both cases, meats are cooked following a proper grilling or roasting process. The flesh is allowed to roll well over the grilling equipment to allow the heat touch every part of the fleshy item. This helps to build that simmering and spicy experience which often makes you feel as if there is no end to an appetite.

South Texas Style Beef Barbacoa

Five brothers together make one palatable dish. Yes that’s the way it’s done. Garlic powder, black pepper, dried oregano, chili powder and salt - all mixed well and rubbed thoroughly and evenly on all sides of the meat. Your requirement is three quarts boiling water in a water pan, which allows the beef to be exposed to smoke at least for four hours and at a temperature between 225 to 275 degrees. Once you are to change the boiling water of the pan. After this is over, keep watch that the internal temperature of the beef does not exceed 160 - 170 degrees.

The next step would be to lay the beef in a foil-baking pan, seal it well with heavy-duty aluminum cover, and carefully place it in a preheated oven at a temperature of 325 degrees. The baking should continue for one hour and forty-five minutes. After everything is done just test the meat. You will see that the flesh tends to fall apart from the bone - yes, proper broiling method can really make the meat soft.

Now, it is the time to serve. The meat is chopped and shred into small pieces and then dished up with guacamole, salsa, and hot tortillas.

The queen of the Mexican bistro

Outside Mexico City, there are several places serving palatable barbacoa de borrego (lamb barbeque) and other provincial cooking varieties in a dozen of unbounded restaurants. Arroyo, one of Mexico’s famous restaurants is noted for its supply of pit-roasted barbacoa de borrego and consomme de Borrego. Such dishes are well complimented by soup made from the drippings of the roasting lamb and sheep.

Mexican barbacoa - a Mexico magnificence that can make the heat of an occasion rise to an extent when the rest of the party dance wildly with the pulsating music. When hot barbeque accompanies the heat of an occasion, nothing else is required to make the party more enjoying.

Costa Rica Caribbean Travel

March 23rd, 2008 by karena7384

If you’re considering where to go on your next vacation, try the world of great tropical adventure called Costa Rica.

A Costa Rica Caribbean vacation lets you explore active volcanoes, see wild animals, see lush rain forests up close, and swim and lounge on great beaches. Costa Rica is one of the few ultimate paradises that have been left untouched on planet Earth. There are no military bases or nuclear power plants, and Costa Rica has lots of culture. In addition, Costa Rica is a tropical climate, so there’s no winter to contend with. Costa Rica is a democratic society and is one of the most peaceful in the world. Its last civil war occurred in 1948. Since then, it has abolished armed forces and has also avoided despotic dictatorships, military coups, terrorism and any other forms of conflict so common in other parts of the world.

In addition, Costa Rica has a very friendly country. Costa Rica Caribbean travel provides a friendly, warm welcome no matter what part of the country you wish to visit.

Costa Rica means “rich coast,” but Costa Rica has far more to offer than just its coast. Costa Rica is a country of incredible natural beauty and it contains many species of animals not present in many other parts of the world. Some of these animals are very rare and can only be seen if you go to Coast Rica.

In addition, plants are very diverse and beautiful as well. There are well over 10,000 species of vascular plants and many gorgeous flowers. In addition, almost 2000 tree species have been recorded in this beautiful Latin American country. Visiting this astonishing country should give you an incredibly exciting Costa Rican Caribbean travel vacation, with such unusual and innumerable flora and fauna to view in its natural habitat.

In addition to land mammals and birds that anybody interested in ecology would love to see, Costa Rica also has approximately 835 species of fish. 700 of these are saltwater fish. Anglers and fishers should have a wonderful time fishing in Coast Rica’s clear blue waters, as they challenge themselves to see if they can catch any of these unusual fish species.

Now, let’s focus for a minute on the northwest region of Coast Rica, called Guanacaste. Most Costa Rican Caribbean travelers go there these days because of its ever-changing scenery and the many activities offered. There are many tours you can take; no matter what your interests, you should find something you like. With these tours, take an close look at all of its exotic trees, plants, flowers, animals and fish. For an experience you’ll never forget, a Coast Rica Caribbean vacation is just the ticket for you.

Whatever your interests, you should find something you like to do on your Coast Rica Caribbean travel. Some of these will depend on the region of the country you go to. In the rain forest, bird watching walks with English-speaking guides who are experts in identification themselves should let you see exotic species up close, while horseback riding provides another view of your Costa Rican Caribbean travel vacation

Another option is to take a canopy tour, which is a popular tour in every region of Coast Rica. However, to best experience Costa Rica’s precious rain forest, avoid tours that go through areas from the north towards the west. In these areas, climates are drier so that vegetation is not as lush as it is in other areas.

Automotive Training For Do-It-Yourselfers

March 17th, 2008 by karena7384

Automotive training used to be a more common part of our society. Shop class was a commonly offered elective in high schools nationwide, ensuring that most boys knew their way around a car’s engine bay. Additionally, cars relied more on mechanical principles, rather than computerized systems. As a result, when a car broke down, the owner was much more likely to know how to fix it themselves, or at least have a friend or a family member who could fix it for them.

The situation has changed dramatically over the years. Today’s cars are much more complex, and their owners are much less likely to have had any automotive training. As a result, dealerships and garages are repairing a higher percentage of cars than ever before, and mechanics’ rates have risen in accordance with the increased necessity of their services.

Those who dislike the situation have another option. With a little automotive training, most people can perform more of the routine maintenance on their cars, reducing the expenses associated with car maintenance and allowing them the satisfaction of a job well done.

An oil change is an example of routine maintenance that frequently costs car owners far more than they need to spend. An oil change is a fairly simple procedure in most cars, requiring only enough automotive training for the individual to know the location of the oil filter and drain plug. A basic car care class should teach car owners how to locate major components under the hood and perform simple maintenance tasks, as well as imparting valuable tips for beginning do-it-yourselfers. For example, a good introductory class should warn students to beware of screwing a bolt or screw in crooked, known as crossing the threads.

A basic tune up is another routine maintenance task that do-it-yourselfers should be able to handle with a little automotive training. A basic tune up usually consists of changing the air filter, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, and positive crankcase valve (PCV). Depending on the car and the mileage recommendations on the components, a basic tune up can also include replacing the fuel filter and/or the oxygen sensor. Rubber parts, such as drive belts and radiator hoses, may also be checked and replaced during a tune up. On most cars, these parts are easily accessed and require only a basic understanding of automotive functions.

A do-it-yourselfer who has had basic automotive training can also replace his or her own brakes. Changing the brake pads on a car is typically a dirty but simple job, requiring only a basic understanding of the braking components on a car. Additionally, there are numerous routine maintenance and repair jobs that an intermediate level amateur mechanic can usually handle on his or her own, such as replacing a battery, alternator, starter, timing belt, and many other components.

Of course, a significant advantage of having automotive training is that dealerships and garages cannot take advantage of you by recommending maintenance that may not actually need to be done. A basic understanding of auto mechanics will enable you to intelligently discuss any problems with your mechanic, understand what he or she is talking about, and recognize when his or her recommendations are exaggerated or downright unnecessary.

Obviously, knowing the basics of how a car operates can be extremely beneficial, saving you money in more ways than one. Beginning automotive training classes are usually offered at your local auto tech school or community college. Whether you intend to venture a few repairs on your own, or you simply want to be able to hold your own with your mechanic, taking a car care class ensures that you will not be a victim of your own ignorance.

An Overview of Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising

March 17th, 2008 by karena7384

Pay per click (PPC) advertising has revolutionized advertising on the Internet. This allows for very targeted advertising to Internet users who are searching for the particular item that is being advertised. Google Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing are the two major PPC programs on the Internet today. Microsoft AdCenter is a recent newcomer to PPC programs.

Pay per click (PPC) advertising has revolutionized advertising on the Internet. In order to understand PPC advertising, let’s discuss PPC, its history, and some background information.

Let’s start our discussion with a definition of pay per click advertising from Wikipedia.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:-

Pay per click (PPC) is an advertising technique used on websites, advertising networks, and search engines.

With search engines, pay per click advertisements are usually text ads placed near search results; when a site visitor clicks on the advertisement, the advertiser is charged a small amount. Variants include pay for placement and pay for ranking. Pay per click is also sometimes known as Cost Per Click (CPC).

While many companies exist in this space, Google AdWords and Yahoo! Search Marketing, which was formerly Overture, are the largest network operators as of 2006. MSN has started beta testing with their own PPC services MSN adCenter. Depending on the search engine, minimum prices per click start at US$0.01 (up to US$0.50). Very popular search terms can cost much more on popular engines. Abuse of the pay per click model can result in click fraud.

Pay per click advertising covers the three main search engines, but let’s concentrate on Google since it has the largest market share of searches on the Net.

Pay per click advertising is where an advertiser creates an ad for a product or service that will be presented to a search engine (”SE”) user when the user searches on a specific key word or key word phrase. When you use an SE, you see the ads when you receive the results of the search. You have noticed that the ads are about the same information that you entered into the search. This is based on the keywords for which the ads are targeted.

The advertiser that puts the ad in the SE agrees that it will pay a certain amount to the SE each time the ad is clicked by a user. The order of presentation of the ads on the search engine results page depends on the price that the advertiser agrees to pay and the historical click-through rates of all ads shown for a given search.

This advertising concept has revolutionized Internet advertising and has created Google Adwords, Yahoo Search Marketing, and Microsoft Adcenter. In 2000 Google was the first to start a program of this type and it has developed into Google’s flagship product from which it derives the majority of its revenue.

Originally, Google permitted the Adwords ad to send the user directly to the advertisers site. Early in 2005, the policy changed and now you must link from the Google ad to a “landing page” (page where the searcher will be directed when the ad is clicked). The landing page is used to presell the readers and then send them on to the sales page of the company selling the service or product.

PPC advertising is a great way to make money as an affiliate. You identify a company that you want to promote, identify the keywords that searchers will use when searching for the company’s products, and set up a landing web page to receive the click from the SE. On the landing page, you place ad copy to sell the reader on clicking to the company’s site that you are representing. If the user clicks to the company site and takes the desired action (purchasing a product or completing a lead form), you are paid for the completion of the action. This will be a percent of the sale of a product or a flat payment for a sales lead.

Anyone can sign up for these programs and it is quite easy to do so. You can make money using this technique. However, before you think this will make you rich overnight, let’s get a little education on how it works.

When an SE presents your ad to a user, it is called an “impression”. When a user clicks on the ad, it is called a “click”. The SE develops a ratio called the click through rate (CTR) by dividing the clicks by the impressions. If your CTR remains high enough (this varies by SE’s, but usually above one percent is sufficient), your ad will continue to run. If it does not perform well, the SE will inactivate it until you change something about the ad to make it perform better.

Your account with the PPC program will have reports that show you the impressions, the clicks, the CTR. It will also show you your average cost per click, the total cost for the keyword (clicks time average cost), and the average position of the ad in the times it was displayed (first, second, third, etc.).

This is an exciting business model for creating supplemental income. If you want to learn more about Google Adwords, buy the “Adwords Bible” by Chris Chandler called Google Cash.

The best way to learn about PPC advertising is to set up an account on Google Adwords and experiment with a campaign. You can set a budget to prevent the campaign from costing you too much if your campaign results in your paying more for clicks than you make from your sales. Be cautious on your first few campaigns and limit your potential exposure.

Good luck with your PPC campaigns.

Traveling with Children - Learning Activities for the Road

March 16th, 2008 by karena7384

Traveling with children can be fun as well as very trying. Our family has been traveling with our children since the children were babies. Our children are in their middle school years now, but over the years we have come up with some fun travel activities that keep the children’s attention and teach them something in the process.

While on long trips, it can be very tempting to use the portable DVD player to provide entertainment for your children, and don’t think for a minute that we don’t use that form of entertainment…. for parts of long trips…. but there are so many simple, fun games that you can play with your children that will help make the trip smoother and more enjoyable. Here are some examples of activities that we have used to make travel time smoother.

One of my children’s favorite games is what my husband calls “Toss Ups”. In Toss Ups, my husband simply tosses questions up. For instance, “Who was the first president of the United States of America?” or “If I had 5 apples, and I gave 3 apples to Tom , how many apples do I have now?” Now, as you can see, the questions can be very simple depending on your children’s ages. If you have a larger age span between children, you might toss up general questions to all, but throw in…. Now, this toss up is just for Adam… and then ask a question tailored for the younger child. This game was a huge hit with our children when they were ages two through five, but even now that they are 11 and 13, every now and then we hear - Hey Daddy - give us some toss ups…. Believe me, trying to come up with questions for smart middle-schoolers is tough!!

Lately, we have tailored the game of “Going on a trip” to our family. “Going on a trip” is a fun game where everyone in the car tells that they are going on a trip and bringing something along. That “something” has to begin with the first letter of the person’s name. You keep going along in that fashion until everyone guesses the first letter - first name connection. Now that our children are older, we have adapted that game to a pretty intricate game of logic…. For instance…. “I am going on a trip, and I am bringing an apple, a banana, and a cat.” The next person might then say (if they know the correct connection) “I am going on a trip, and I am bringing a mop, and napkin, and an octopus.” The play continues until everyone gets the connection. In this case, it was that all of the things that I am bringing start with consecutive letters of the alphabet. The person who begins each game selects the connection.

These activities are simple and fun. The idea is for the entire family to be involved and enjoy the thrill of guessing the answers. Each of these activities can be played with just about any age group and best of all, there is no cost involved. Any piece of information can be used in the toss ups game from social studies, science, history, math, or trivia… you name it. The idea here is to have fun with your children and make travel time a little easier.

“No Games”…Meaning What Exactly?

March 16th, 2008 by karena7384

Well, if you’ve ever read an online dating profile anywhere, you’ve invariably seen some version of today’s Phrase Of The Day in there somewhere. This can come in the form of, “No Games!” or “I am sick of playing games!” or “I do not play games, and won’t put up with it”, among others.

Having read this phrase a few hundred times, I got a bright idea. I started asking people what they meant by that. The conversations, predictably, went about like this:

Me: So you say you don’t want to “play games”. What are “games”, exactly?

They: Uh…you know…”games”.

Me: Such as…?

They: Well, you know, all these games people play.

Based on this pattern, there are three conclusions I could make:

1) People have no concrete idea what they mean by “No Games”,…

2) …If they do know what they mean, it’s not a standard definition that the rest of us can relate to immediately, and…

3) …It’s altogether possible that people put “No Games” in their profiles just because everyone else did and it sounds like the thing to write.

My bet is that #3 is more often the reason than not. Lack of creativity has never been in short supply on dating web sites! That said, when so many people bring the “games” thing up-even putting it at their very headline in multiple instances-there’s got to be something going on here.

So what’s up with it? What DOES it mean?

After considerable thought and conversation, here are just some of the possibilities as far as what people are talking about here. I don’t see this as an exhaustive list, and I welcome additions from readers. For your convenience, I’ve broken it down by gender.

GUY GAMES

1) What’s a “game” without a “player”? — Now, what a “player” is, exactly, is a whole ‘nother topic, thereby adding complexity to this entire thing. Whoever he is, some women are “sick” of him. For the record, other women are inexplicably drawn to “player” types. So thank you, ladies, for clarifying up front what your preference is…assuming, um, that’s what you meant.

2) The dating “rules” of engagement — This involves doing things or acting in a certain way based on unwritten ‘protocol’. For example, when a guy gets your phone number/takes you out on a date/etc. he should wait three days to call you afterward, right?

3) Lying about intentions — He “loves you” and wants a relationship. Or vice-versa.

4) Overpromising/underdelivering — He says he has a “wonderful evening” planned for you. You are all excited, and you end up doing absolutely nothing…again. Another version of this is right after dinner out, while it’s still early, he says he’s really just ready to go home and “chill”. This is categorized as a guy “game” because in my opinion the guy should have dates planned for the couple to enjoy, largely based on (hopefully) her favorite things to do/places to go.

GAL GAMES

1) Playing “hard to get” — She leaves him hanging. A lot.

2) Marking territory — This is all about getting involved in a guy’s life in such a way that before he knows it, you are most certainly not going away anytime soon. (e.g. making friends with his friends, introducing his and her kids to one another, etc.)

3) Meal ticket — She keeps him around because he’ll buy her dinner, and stuff…and that’s really all. My personal opinion on this, BTW, is that if it’s going on, it’s the guy’s fault. He has failed to create attraction on her part and besides, who can blame her?

4) Sexual control — Anything under the general heading of “manipulation by sex” is a “game”.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY GAMES

1) Flakiness — Generally described as saying something will get done and not delivering. Some people are legitimate all-around flakes/deadbeats, and that’s no game. The game here generally involved flaking out on someone after committing to a date, etc. because a “better option” came along. That’s ‘Game City’, baby.

2) Mind games — Either hinting or outright saying something is so, and then pretending it was never said later. Acting in approval of some activity at one time, disapproving of the same thing another time. Carrots and Sticks. Carts and Horses. You get the idea, and this can take any form whatsoever. Everything from where the relationship stands to what size boxers the dude wears is fair “game” for this type of thing. This gig is all about controlling someone by weakness-usually in a passive aggressive manner (Which is, ahem, another topic for another day).

3) Presumptuous assumptions, what’s your function? — Whenever someone imposes on another person and says, “Oh, I just assumed…” you have this going on. Example here would be A invites B (note careful avoidance of X and Y variables here) to drinks. A automatically expected B to pay the bill, and doesn’t have money. Someone has been “played” here. Anything involving presumed use of the other’s time, resources or talents is this sort of game. Ladies, if you automatically assume your guy is going to help you move (unless maybe if it’s in with him?) you are looking at a problem waiting to happen.

4) Guilt trips — A major tactic of manipulation, often characterized by projecting blame upon someone else rather than accepting any responsibility for one’s actions. (In fact, run away from anyone who runs this brand of smack on a regular basis.)

NON-EXAMPLES

Just for the record, there are a few things that may seem like games, but be careful before you consider them such.

1) Not knowing what one wants — If someone wants a relationship and the other isn’t quite there yet, for whatever reason, the one driving the relationship often thinks the other is “playing games”. Assuming everyone has been honest about intentions here, this frustration is merely to be called “not getting what one wants immediately”. It’s not a “game”.

2) Details surrounding non-exclusivity — If you are not in an exclusive relationship with someone, it is not a “game” when the other person is dating other people. Further, it’s not a “game” when you are not being given details. In fact, if one person is asking the other for said details (for which there is no answer that will make said person happy, of course) that might in fact fall under the “game” category. Assuming exclusivity, by the way, is not a good strategy. People in exclusive relationships should have a common understanding that it’s the case.

3) Outright stupidity — Laugh hard if you must, but you know it happens. A or B did or said something in a bonehead moment, and the other thinks it was a deliberate tactic to derail things in general. Yeah, well, it may actually derail things. But it wasn’t deliberate so it wasn’t a “game”.

So the summary here could theoretically be that if someone isn’t being up front about something, the “game” is on.

Tidbits For Baby’s Baptism

March 16th, 2008 by karena7384

As you would expect from the Christians, the baptism ceremony is very crucial for them and for a baby to be baptized it is even important since it signals the beginning of the baby’s journey into a life of Christianity. That is why it is important to have the closest people to the family to come over for the ceremony. Another important part of the baptism ceremony is the favors or small gifts for the guests. There is a weak guideline existing today regarding the appropriateness of various favors and gifts. Normal favors would include the ever favourite Holy Cross, candles, the design in favor of the angels, and also the Holy Bible. If you want a gift that would leave a lasting impression on the coming guests then your imagination is very important. If you find yourself struggling then do not fear since it wold take time. Here are some ideas to help you through the process.

The whole baptism ceremony is a very religious event and the fact that the baby will be given a baptism name might help find an idea for the baptism gift. It is possible to use alphabets in designing the baptism favors. Imagine how nice it would be for your guests to receive nicely shaped cards with various alphabets shaped out on the card with colorful glitters. It might sound to exaggerating but to bring the gift more towards the whole baptism idea you can give a pretty chain with the pendant shaped like the holy cross as an accompanying gift. The whole perception is to try the right combination to implement the religion aspect of the ceremony and the newborn life of the baby. If you find the idea too weird for your liking, then you might like the idea of scribbling down the baby’s name on the precious gift card. It would certainly prove to be useful when years pass by and the guests see the card and they remember back the memories.

To quote a verse from the Holy Bible, And he said: ” I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of Heaven.” (Matthew 18:3 from the New International Version Holy Bible).
