Let’s Hear it For Enthusiasm!

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

According to the dictionary, enthusiasm means 1. great excitement for or interest in a subject or cause. 2. a source or cause of great excitement or interest. 3. ecstasy arising from supposed possession by a god. The word actually comes from the Greek ‘entheos’ meaning “the God within.”

When you find a subject or cause that produces that kind of excitement, it makes you feel empowered, and able to do just about anything you can imagine. In fact, the enthusiasm itself can enable you to do it exceedingly well, whatever the subject may be.

While enthusiasm begins in the mind, it can have a profound effect on the physical body as well. The pitch of your voice, your heart rate, even your posture, not to mention your energy level changes when you are filled with enthusiasm. In addition, people around you can detect it and will be affected too, because enthusiasm is contagious. An enthusiastic person is just more enjoyable to be around. Norman Vincent Peale said, “If you have zest and enthusiasm you attract zest and enthusiasm. Life does give back in kind.”

Teachers often have a powerful affect on their students if they are, themselves, filled with enthusiasm in their subject matter. Some only teach; others inspire. Passion for a subject often awakens the minds of the students.

For those people who are in sales, enthusiasm for their product or service means the difference between a few sales and a phenomenal success rate. According to Walter Chrysler, “The real secret to success is enthusiasm.”

How did they become so enthusiastic about what they do? It must come from a passion for a particular subject, a real desire to master it. Dr. Wayne Dyer says, “Love what you do. Do what you love.” That’s the real secret right there. When you work at something you love, you can’t help but be enthusiastic about it, and odds are, you’ll be very good at that particular kind of work, or sport, or hobby. When you’re that passionate about what you do, it almost ceases to be work and becomes more like fun.

Enthusiastic people are often more successful at what they do, mostly because they become so adept. They also find it a bit easier surviving hard times. It’s hard to break a person who is fortified with enthusiasm. “The real secret to success is enthusiasm” according to Walter Chrysler.

Keep in mind that enthusiasm is not the same thing as just being excited. You can get excited about a new house. However, you would be enthusiastic about helping to construct that new house yourself. Every new invention and creation is due to enthusiasm on the part of the inventor or creator.

Age, experience and traumatic events can sometimes take the edge off your enthusiasm, your thrill of life. How can you get it back, you ask? Think back to a time in your past, when you were very enthusiastic about some subject or cause and try to remember how it made you feel, how excited you were at the mere thought of it. Try to regain the passion and desire you felt back then. Remind yourself why it was thrilling to you. Everyone changes and your enthusiasm may be for a very different subject now.

Let your passions take over and enthusiasm become a part of your life. As Mark Twain once said, “Let us endeavor to live so that when we come to die, even the undertaker will be sorry.”

To be enthusiastic-Act enthusiastically!

Golf Fitness Tips - Five Benefits Of Adding A Few Simple Exercises To Your Golf Game

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Fitness is a major priority for professional golfers on tour these days. Golf, like any other physical activity, takes a good amount of stamina because you’re constantly pushing yourself to excel and you’re doing a lot of walking while you’re out on the course.

Although it’s important to focus on improving your golf game, you’ll also need to keep in shape in order to increase your stamina and prevent injury that could keep you out of commission. Here are a few tips that will help to keep you on track:

#1. Participate regularly in some form of strenuous cardio activity. This can be running, swimming, sprinting (hill sprints are excellent cardio builders and a good fat burner), stair stepping, treadmill, ect. This will also improve the strength in your hips and your lower body.

Always remember to stretch before and after any type of strenuous exercise. This is not only important to decrease soreness after your workout, but most importantly to help prevent injury.

#2. Improving Abdominal strength is helpful in preventing injuries to your lower back. This is an injury common to golfers. You can improve your abdominal strength by doing sets of sit ups, crunches, swimming, ect.

Another injury common to beginning golfers is shin splints. You may also have these if you’ve taken an extended lay off from the game and are just returning. The best recommendation that I can make for shin splints is to take a slower pace when starting out or returning to the game. I’ve personally suffered with shin splints ever since my days in the military and it just takes time to build or rebuild the strength in the muscles in that area of your legs.

Try riding a stationary bike regularly to increase your leg strength, hill sprinting (in short sets) will help a lot, but don’t overdo it at first, swimming is also excellent because it takes the body weight off your legs. Hold on to the side of the pool and do plenty of kicking exercises, both on your stomach and on your back.

Once again, remember to take it slowly and you’ll be back in the game before you know it.

#3. Upper body exercises will not only help your stamina, but also help you to improve your swing. Exercises like push-ups (arms and chest), sit-ups (lower back and abdominal muscles), mountain climbers (brutal, but effective) and even jumping jacks will help you to increase the strength in your torso and hips, which will result in you being able to have more “push off” power in your down swing, hit the ball straighter and farther than before and also improve your consistancy.

#4. It’s also a proven fact that exercising regularly will help to reduce stress, therefore helping you to “keep your cool” on the back 9 while the other guy sweats and stresses out. You’ll also feel better off of the course too. You can realistically count on a “whole life” benefit from working out. Oh, you’ll also lose weight and lower your cholesterol.

Let’s recap what we’ve learned here.

#5. Doing the correct exercises on a regular basis will help you to improve your golf game, reduce your risk of injury, increase your strength and stamina and also have great health benefits, such as weight loss, lowering bad cholesterol and looking and feeling emotionally better.

One last question….What are you waiting for?

Start incorporating fitness into your golf game today!

Greatest Underrated Guitar Players

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Ask anybody who the greatest guitar players in the history of rock music are, and you’ll likely get the standard answers. The big three, Clapton, Beck and Page; certainly Eddie Van Halen; maybe Stevie Ray Vaughn. The metal-heads will cite Randy Rhodes and George Lynch. These are all valid answers, but if you would put forth names like Elliot Easton and Andy Summers, you might be likely to get a blank stare in return. Too often great guitarists are overlooked simply because they lack the flash of a star like Eddie Van Halen or because they are part of a group that simply has an overabundance of talent and they tend to be moved to the background. Take Andy Summers, guitarist for the Police. Everybody knows who Sting is, and there is no doubt that he is tremendously talented, as is drummer Stewart Copeland. As part of that unit, however, Summers was often overlooked. What is so amazing about Andy Summers is not only his command of the instrument, but his overwhelming versatility. From ska to punk to reggae to straight ahead rock and roll, nothing is outside of his ability. His style has been described as minimalist, but that minimalism is a plus, and he is to be credited for not falling prey to his critics and trying to overplay to compensate for a lack of complex layers of sound. Below, in no particular order, I’ve listed some of my favorite underappreciated players, and the reasons why I consider them to be great.

Elliot Easton (The Cars): Elliot Easton is probably the greatest reason for the success of The Cars. Without Easton’s accessible rock guitar cutting through the synth driven Cars sound, they never would have found the mainstream acceptance that they did. Imagine the spacey pair of Ric Ocasik and Greg Hawkes playing over an equally new-wave influenced guitarist and you have a style of music that would not appeal to people on a large scale. Easton’s Buddy Hollyesque sound, however, served to make The Cars commercially viable. “My Best Friend’s Girl” from their debut album is an excellent example of how Easton’s contribution was essential in creating hit records for The Cars.

Warren DiMartini (Ratt): What impresses me most about DiMartini is that fact that despite being known as a speed demon who is content to throw a startling flurry of notes at the listener, is that he knows the value of a rest. Too many metal artists try to play as fast as possible, and DiMartini can keep up with the best of them, but I’m more taken with the fact that on songs like “Lay it Down”, “Wanted Man” and “Round and Round”, it’s DiMartini’s artful use of pauses and mutings to lend depth and character to what would otherwise be just another ripping metal tune.

Kathy Valentine (The Go-Go’s/solo): The Go-Go’s will never be known for stunning musicianship, but Kathy Valentine’s reputation suffered from being thrown together with a group of girls who were far less proficient in their playing. Not to say that the Go-Go’s were not any good. Their style of music was based on catchy beats and fun lyrics, so being technically perfect was not a requirement. Unfortunately, the fact that this was an easily exploitable fault that the critics could grab a hold of, the band was unfairly criticized for being “a bunch of girls who could barely play their instruments.” If they had bothered to check, they would have found the Valentine was actually an experienced and talented guitarist, making the switch to bass to fill the spot with the Go-Go’s. Actually, a casual listen will show that Valentine’s bass playing stands out more that Charlotte Caffey’s or Jane Wiedlin’s guitar work. At times it’s almost melodic. Since the Go-Go’s Valentine has gone solo, along with a side project called the Delpines. I would strongly urge you to check out Valentine’s appealing mix of rock and punk on her “Light Years” album.

Slash (Guns ‘N’ Roses/Velvet Revolver): Guns ‘N’ Roses now Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan once claimed that Slash had “the fastest right hand I’ve ever seen.” While it may be argued that the left (fretting) hand is more important for a guitarist, after hearing Slash play, there can be no discounting the value of a fast right hand. “Sweet Child of Mine”, “Paradise City” and “Welcome to the Jungle” received more radio play, but to hear one of the best examples of Slash’s work, check out “Mr. Brownstone” on “Appetite for Destruction”.

Steve “Steamin” Clark (Def Leppard): It seems that all great artists have their demons and Steve Clark was no exception. Before alcohol claimed his life at too young an age, Steve Clark had built up a legacy of fine work that will live on. Steve’s gift was an ability to build spatial separation into his phrasing. It was almost as if he was playing in a huge empty amphitheater in which each note rang out perfectly and separately and yet, along with the complimentary work of bandmate Phil Colin, fit tightly together like pieces in a puzzle. The song “Love Bites” from the “Hysteria” album perfectly illustrates this point. Unlike previous member Pete Willis, Colin provided a perfect foil for Clark to play off of. Unfortunately, Def Leppard seemed to be associated more with the fact that drummer Rick Allen played with one arm, the result of a 1984 auto accident, taking some of the attention away from the fact that Clark’s playing made Def Leppard one of the finest pop metal bands of the 80’s.

Howard Leese (Heart): Fated to share the stage with two of the most beautiful and talented women of the rock era, Howard Leese continued to lend his creative talents to Heart long after its other founding members had departed. It was Nancy with her beautiful blond tresses that stole the spotlight, but it was Howard’s guitar that powered the group. Secure in the knowledge that he was a key component in Heart’s driving guitar based sound, he was never bitter about the fact that his name was only recognizable amongst true fans of the group. Listen to “Barracuda” or “Magic Man” or “Even it Up” and you are instantly struck by the inherent “coolness” of the opening riffs, and his mastery of harmonic overtones is second to none.

Blizzard Cracks Down On World Of Warcraft Gold Farmers

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Only a few days after Ebay kicked all of the sellers auctioning virtual goods, including World of Warcraft gold, off their auction site, Blizzard decided they needed to take some action as well to stem the flow of real money trading for virtual goods.

This comes upon the heels of Blizzard’s wide-scale actions last year when they banned close to 60,000 World of Warcraft accounts for terms of service violations. This year it is going to be the gold farmers who are on the run. Blizzard recently announced in their forums that they have “filed a federal lawsuit against the operators of Peons4hire, a popular gold-selling organization. As part of the lawsuit, the operators of Peons4hire have been asked to immediately cease all in-game spamming efforts by all entities and websites under their control.”

Since these gold farmers use bots to spam other users within the game, they are very disruptive to other Warcraft players, especially if you are trying to do some grinding or gold farming on your own. In addition, real money transfers for virtual goods is not in the spirit of WoW game-play as it gives players with more disposable income unfair advantages in the game.

Thankfully, since the release of Blizzard’s spam filters, a lot of the worst spam has stopped, but it will take a lot more diligence on Blizzard’s part to finally put the trade in real money for gold to bed. This first round of cease and desist orders, though, is a step in the right direction. Combined with Ebay’s actions, this should go a long way to level the playing field for players who want to just enjoy the game without spending hundreds of dollars just to keep up with other players. It is definitely an excellent first move and it will be interesting to see how they follow-up.

A Possible Solution To Every Brides Wedding Hair Nightmare!

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Nowadays, it is becoming increasingly popular for brides to opt for wedding hair accessories instead of the classic tiara. Some brides prefer the simplicity and versatility hair accessories offer, whereas others are thankful for an alternative to the tiara for fear of looking too ‘princess-y’. Whatever the reason, the sheer range of hair accessories available provide brides with variety to enhance their style and discover hair jewels to work with every hair type.

Wedding hair pins are one of the most popular hair accessories for brides and, indeed, bridesmaids. Many brides choose to wear their hair up particularly because a neatly styled up-do is guaranteed to remain chic and stylish throughout the day. Although hair styles such as a chignon or French pleat are classic, they often require dressing to soften and to avoid looking too harsh. Wedding hair pins are perfect for such hair styles, adding decadence and subtle sparkle for a timeless look. Popular designs range from butterflies, intricate floral and vintage inspired ornate design and are often set with crystals.

Possibly one of the most versatile of wedding hair accessories, jewelled hair combs suit most hair styles and work with practically all hair types. With such a diverse range of wedding hair combs available, most brides will find a suitable design. A large hair comb can look stunning worn to hold hair up on one side and, with a more informal style, can be particularly suited to beachside weddings whereas a medium sized hair comb is perfect to add sparkle to an up-do or pin up small sections of hair for brides wearing their hair loose. Wedding hair comb designs available include floral, vintage inspired styles, butterfly and petite hair combs. Classic designs are often adorned with crystals and hand-made styles are often beaded.

Wedding head bands adorned with jewels have become a favoured wedding hair accessory for brides preferring a simple and elegant look. Often set with crystal flowers or butterflies, they offer simplistic contemporary style combined with a feminine feel. Particularly popular because of their suitability for all hair lengths, wedding head bands are the perfect answer for short haired brides who are often limited by the choice available. Wedding head bands are often adorned floral, butterfly or bow designs and are usually set with crystals or beads.

Whatever the brides’ style or hair type, it’s safe to say that with a little shopping around, the perfect wedding hair accessory (http://www.glitzysecrets.com/acatalog/glitzy-secrets-hair-accessories.html ) can be found. It’s important to firstly consider the suitability to hair type and length. This is where a hairdresser’s advice can be invaluable! Once the type of hair accessory is decided, the fun can begin. Remember to take in account the style of wedding dress, colour themes, flowers and time of year - as with every aspect of wedding planning, co-ordinating is the key to success and a beautiful wedding.

Writing Web Content

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Professional writers find it hard to read web content. Not because web content lacks quality, but because it lacks literary style. Obviously writing for the printed media and writing for the web are two different matters. There are not too many people ready to give up the morning newspaper for the, let’s say, “morning e-zine”, but more and more users browse the web looking for information, news and entertainment.

It’s easier to follow a story in the printed media than online. Reasons vary from the size of the text and the resolution of the monitor to how a page is read. While people read novels and books in sequence, web readers are unpredictable. You never know on what page a visitor is going to land and from where. People browse the web and look for specific information. Then they “scan” a page and read solely what captures their interest.

To write good content for the web means to be able to write plain. Here are some good tips in writing content for the web:

1. Write as you talk. That means: use a simple writing style: plain English, short sentences, clear content and easy flow of ideas. Don’t use fancy words to show how smart you are. Guess what? People don’t care. You don’t want your readers to run to a dictionary to see what you mean.

2. Summarize your main ideas in clear titles and headings. This is what web readers are looking for: a clear formatted text with a clear structure of ideas. Start with the headline, continue with a summary, and use subheads to outline different ideas. People do read bulleted text. Use bullets or numbers to condense important points (yeah, as in this article).

3. Write less: people don’t like to scroll down on infinite pages. Long articles almost always turn them off. Keep your articles short - let’s say not longer than 500 words.

4. Chunk your web pages. As users prefer shorter pages, try to limit the length of your web pages by creating slices of information. Use links to help readers quickly locate further info.

5. To enhance reader experience, use visible links to more information, news, related sources, pictures and so on. Don’t mislead your readers. Let them choose which links to follow. As a standard, links are blue and underlined. But many designers choose other colors and a hover effect that suggests to users that the text is a link.

6. Write exciting content: people love controversy and learn from debate. Turn on their imagination, encourage them to comment and send you feedback. Use a personal, friendly style to win their sympathy.

7. Write for your readers but don’t forget about the search engines. Writing for the search engines might cause your phrases to sound odd and repetitive, but search engines are looking for keywords. Keyword density is one of the factors influencing the positioning of your website in the search engines results. So: repeat words but don’t annoy your visitors with this technique. Repetitive is not synonym with stuffing.

Now, if you are an experienced journalist or a traditional writer, are you sure you want to give that up and become a web writer? Or could you be both? Think about it!

Video Game Addiction Equals Babies Starving

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Young couple accused of neglecting young children to surf the Web and play computer video games.

In Reno, Nevada a couple authorities say were so obsessed the the Internet and computer video games that they left babies starving, suffering other health problems have pleaded guilty to child neglect.

Michael and Iana Straw had two children, a girl ll months old and a boy 22 month old. Authorities found these two children very malnourished and near death last month after social working took them to a hospital. According to prosecutor Kelli Ann Viloria the children are doing much better, gaining weight and are in foster care.

“Michael Straw, 25, and Iana Straw, 23, pleaded guilty Friday to two counts each of child neglect. Each faces a maximum 12-year prison sentence.”

According to prosecutor Viloria the couple was too distract by online computer video games, namely the fantasy role playing “Dungeons & Dragons” series, to give their children proper care.

“They had food; they just chose not to give it to their kids because they were too busy playing video games,” Viloria told Reno’s local publication.

The status of the Children when found.

When police found the girl and took her to the hospital the staff there had to shave her hair because it was matted with cat urine. “The 10-pound girl also had a mouth infection, dry skin and severe dehydration.”

The brother was also treated for starvation as well as a genital infection, because of a lack in muscle development he had difficulties walking, investigators say.

The father, “Michael Straw is an unemployed cashier, and his wife worked for a temporary staffing agency doing warehouse work, according to court records.”

Michael received $50,000 from inheritance that “he spent on computer equipment and a large plasma television, authorities said.”

American Medical Association ponder Video game addiction

“While child abuse because of drug addiction is common, abuse rooted in video game addiction is rare, Viloria said.”

Last month, doctors at an American Medical Association dismissed having video game addiction as a mental disorder, stating more research need to be done. Some argued it was like alcoholism while other felt there was solid evidence that is was a psychological disease.

It is hard to know whether or not video game addiction is a true psychological disorder. It is very possible, seeing people pull all nighters playing computer video games, pausing only to use the bathroom, not even eating is problem in this writers mind.

Thinking and Decision-making In Poker

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Thinking is the greatest preoccupation of any poker player. Good thinking is vital so that a player can beat the game and win the pot. And a lapse in concentration can be fatal.

What does one need to achieve the kind of thinking necessary for poker? First is discipline. This means that a player must be able to direct his mind on what he is supposed to think. He should not allow his mind to dwell on inconsequential things such as how the tie worn by his opponent is mismatched with the jacket.

Second is objectivity. A player should evaluate the odds (card odds, investment odds, edge odds) before choosing to bet, raise, bluff or fold. He should not raise simply because he was irritated or he wants to get even.

And third is tenacity. A good player should not lose his concentration. He should endeavor to stay at such level of thinking that does not allow distractions or intense emotions. He should not spend precious minutes staring at his cards before deciding what to do next. He should just take a quick look and then immediately plan his strategy. For such is the only way to make the poker game beneficial to his pockets.

There are two kinds of thinking that a good player employs during a poker game. These are “objective thinking” and “analytical thinking”.

Objective thinking involves the astute planning of what action to take. He assesses the potential of his hand and weighs investment odds against edge odds. He formulates several strategies on how to best win the greatest possible pot. And he stays alert for further developments that will help him decide more precisely about which strategy he will eventually use. To simplify, objective thinking is similar to “thinking ahead”.

Analytical thinking goes hand in hand with keen observation. The goal of analytical thinking is to understand the personalities of the opponents. A good analysis will allow a good player to interpret the actions or movements of his opponents. From such actions, the good player can infer accurately the hand of the other players.

Analytical thinking is at its finest when the player is not involved in a hand. He studies his opponents, takes mental notes of their movements and creates future strategies.

For example, one opponent has the quirky habit of inhaling (perhaps to relax himself) when he gets a good hand and exhaling (perhaps as a substitute for a sigh) when he gets a busted hand. A good player can influence this opponent to either fold or bluff.

Another opponent, when calling a bluff, hesitates and purses his lips, then makes a $20 raise. Depending on the hand of the good player, he will decide whether he will call the bluff, fold, or make a bluff of his own.

Thinking is indeed vital in any decision making in each poker game. It can establish control. It can win the pot. And, if nothing else, it can make a player forget his nervousness.

The Characteristics of Antique Cars

Friday, March 14th, 2008

There are some people that believe antique cars should no longer be driven on our open roads. The reason they think this way is because these old vehicles are considered relics of the past that just cannot match the larger and efficient vehicles on the market today.

On the contrary, there are a lot of vintage collectors of these roadsters. People do this as a hobby or to hopefully get a return of investment later when the market value of these cars go up again.

A car is considered an antique if it is already 25 years old. There are not that many modern vehicles that are able to survive this long which makes the early models very unique. In fact, the price of these rare machines goes up because of the historical value each of these have.

There are those who believe that the term antiquated should only be given to machines that were made prior to the Second World War. These machines served as the pioneers of today’s vehicles since the technology back then paved the way for power steering, safety belts and other features that are required in all automobiles.

Are antique cars simple to preserve? The response is no. This is due to car manufacturers no longer assembling these vehicles and the parts making these both difficult to locate and costly.

Can the antique car be used daily? This really depends on the condition of the engine and since these are quite old, there is a possibility that these could breakdown. The brakes on the vehicle can also be a problem so checks must be done regularly.

Will it be a good idea to get insurance for the car? The answer is yes. These machines are rare and are not equipped with an alarm system which makes it easy for anyone to hot wire and drive off.

Where can a person buy an antique car? These vehicles can be purchased in a dealership. There are just a few around so the seeker can also try searching in the Internet and in the classified ads of the paper and automobile magazines.

Those who do not understand that much about cars ought to be accompanied by a knowledgeable mechanic. A trained technician should be qualified to look over the inside of the automobile and decide if it is in fact worth buying at that cost. The individual should also take the automobile for a test drive to get the experience of remaining behind the wheel.

Can the antique car be assembled by a person? The answer is yes. In fact, there are some associations who do this as a hobby and help the members find the missing parts in order to finish the vehicle. This can only be done if the individual is a skilled mechanic who knows everything about the car.

Will the person make a lot of profit assembling and selling the antique car? The response is no. In reality, more money is used up putting the entire vehicle together than finding somebody to buy it.

There are numerous antique cars to choose from. The person should look around and check if there is a model that is worth bringing home.

Antique cars represent a moment in history where traffic did not exist and people can take a trip on the country road. By doing some research and saving some money, the individual will be able to buy that dreamed roadster.

John Purdy operates sites offering resources and information on antique cars (http://www.antique-cars-for-sale.net) and mapping systems for your car (http://www.gps-receivers.net). Visit each of his sites today to find great deals on antique cars and GPS systems.

Rules and Regulations of Golf

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

We all know that without rules and regulations there is no game. Every game has its own rules and regulations. The rules of golf {2} {3} are internationally standardized and are jointly governed by the royal and ancient golf club of st.andrews, which was founded in 1754 and the united states of golf association. After the agreement with R&A, USGA jurisdiction on the enforcement and interpretation of the rules is limited to the United States and Mexico. Canada has the separate royal Canadian golf association, but generally follows the lead of the two larger bodies. The rules of golf continue to evolve, and every four years, the amended versions of the rule book are published. Any brand of Golf Equipments can be used. But it is better to go in for Good brands of Golf Equipments

The rules are made keeping in mind “fairness”. There are few statements stated “play the ball as it lies”, “play the course as you find it”, and “if you can’t do either, do what is fair”. Some rules that are stated:

? Every player is entitled and obliged to play the ball from position where it has come to rest after the stroke, unless a rule allows or demands otherwise

? A player must not accept assistance in making a stroke.

? The condition of the ground or other parts of the country may not be altered to gain an advantage except some cases defined in the rules.

? A Golf ball may only be replaced by another during play of a hole if it is destroyed (rule 5-3), lost (rule 27-1), or unplayable (rule 28), or at some other time permitted by the rules. The player may always substitute balls between the play of two books.

The decisions on the rules of golf are based on formal case decisions by the R&A and USGA and are revised updated every other year.

Amateur golfers:

There are strict regulations regarding the amateur status of golfers. Anybody who played golf for money or who has ever received payment or compensation for giving instruction in golf game will not be considered an amateur. He may not be allowed to participate in competitions limited only to amateur only non-cash prizes won in competition may be accepted within the limits established by the rules of amateur status.

Golf course architecture and design:

There are many kinds of golf courses. Each country has one kind of golf course. It varies according to the climate, etc.

The different kind of golf courses:

? Link courses
? Parkland courses
? Heath land
? Desert courses
? Browns courses
? Sand courses
? Snow courses
? Par 3 courses
? Executive courses.

1. Links courses: this is the most traditional type of golf course. It is located in the coastal areas, on sandy soil, often amid dunes, with few artificial hazards and few trees if any.

2. Parkland courses: this happens to be in typical inland courses, they often resemble British parks.

3. Heath land: this means less manicured and more open area. They often feature gorse and heather and typically less trees.

4. Desert courses: this course has been recently started in Australia and parts of USA and Middle East. It’s a new invention.

5. Browns courses: akin to sand courses, but not much involved in terms of using layers of tar and gavel below the sandy surface layer, to give firmness and support and ensure a consistent bounce/roll.

6. Sand courses: instead of heavily irrigated green, the players play on sand unlike most golf players. Holes are less involved than browns courses. And are only for the casual golfer.

7. Snow courses: can be played in arctic or sub arctic regions during winter. This is a recent invention. Golf is played on snow, typically with an orange colored or any brightly colored ball.

8. Par 3 courses: this course consists entirely of holes with par 3. These are considered a good test of iron shot precision and short game, as the driver is rarely used.

9. Executive courses: the course is generally smaller than the typical 18 hole course.
